Piscator Flies
Канада
Добавлен 30 янв 2007
Hey there Fly Tyers!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the channel. I've been tying flies for clients and shops since 2002 and even after all the years behind the vise still have a deep passion for flies. I tie so many flies I don't get much time on the water, but when I do, I really appreciate the time out in the wild. Many of the fly patterns I feature on the channel are the same ones you will see in my personal fly boxes. I prefer simple flies that are quick to tie over complex patterns. I tie flies for a variety of sportfish such as steelhead, Pacific Salmon, bass, pike, trout, and anything else with finns.
I've been fishing for well over 40 years now and have been tying flies since 2002. Most of the flies I tie are custom patterns for clients and you won't see most of those on the channel, but you may see similar fly patterns make an appearance.
Keep a hook in your vise.

Tying a 2-Tone Wired Perdigon Fly pattern For Trout and Panfish - Piscator Flies
I've been tying quite a few Perdigons over the winter to fill in the blank spots in my fly boxes. I've had a ton of success using tungsten Perdigon flies in the creeks, rivers, and lakes. Trout and panfish have had a hard time passing up these little morsels and I've been honing the patterns over the year based on their performance.
You can use a variety of colors of wire, it's best if you have a good contrast to mimic natural nymphs. Tand and olive, black and copper, pink and brown have all worked out quite nicely for me. Let me know if you find a good color scheme to add to my arsenal.
If you get a little too generous with the Bone Dry and it seeps into the hook eye. No problem, just use...

Tying a Firefox Perdigon Blue Fly pattern For Trout and Panfish - Piscator Flies
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.3 года назад
I like to keep a few blue flies on me when I'm out fishing for trout and panfish. Perdigon fly patterns were really productive in 2020 and this one I was fishing near the end of the season with great success. If you don't have any Iris, there are several other products that work just as well. Even a couple strands of crystal flash will work in a pinch. It looks like I got a little too generous ...

Tying a Jumbo John Variant Fly Fishing Pattern For Trout, Steelhead, & Salmon
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.3 года назад
This is a simplified version of John Barr's jumbo John fly pattern I've recently tied for a client. The major difference is this version omits the flash and resin wingcase. I've tied this in a few different colors, chartreuse, orange, pink, black and brown. I'm tying these in sizes 4 down to 10, but it would be fine tied down into smaller sizes as well. ★★★ Jumbo John Variant Fly Pattern Recipe...

2 Easy Ways to Fix Thick Cloudy Crystallized Bone Dry UV Resin #PiscatorFlies

Subscribe (and click the bell 🛎) for notifications of new videos! bit.ly/piscatorflies UV Resins like Bone Dry have become indispensable to fly tyers over the past few years and for me in particular, Bone Dry has been game-changing. I do however run across this issue with the resin becoming thicker, cloudy (before curing), and gritty with crystals. It's my understanding that this happens when t...

What is the tool that he is using to wrap the orange thread?
hanks, great video. For a veil I am using Pearl Star Burst from Fly Tyer's Dungeon, works and looks great. I'm also creating a dubbing loop with the Enhanced Orange Kraken and using it like he uses the Estaz. Together, it's making a nice egg pattern.
Where do you get all your Angelina at
Great pattern, simple I can see it working very well on my local waters. 🖖
I keep getting these odd shapes, mohawks and generally "not round" eggs. I'm using the pen cap, the straw, no tool, orientating the material in-line, cross ways... you name it! Ugh...it can't be that hard to tie an egg!! LOL Could it be too much foam? Not enough?!
was thinking about using this material for inline musky spinners. Doesn't look like you could double it over very easy.
Great show there buddy call them colors dummy thanks
i have a coffee grinder i put the wood into and short starts it breaks the fabric up the neighbour's dog has a log coat on him I have used the dog hair with the dubbing i have made with his hair ugly rainy cold day i have awesome lucky with the dog hair
Noice. Putting this one on deck. ;)
Like it the squirmy fritz
I have a question. Why put on the ostrich herl? OK, but almost anything works. I just use any kind of black-ish chenille or heavy thread. Flash ok, but not necessary. A few feathers of red maribou does the same thing--calls attention to a 'flaming personality type of leech"--but not necessary. Mainly, just make a good base of thread and start adding black maribou and it will look like a leech. I caught over a dozen trout on one of these just this morning. The fish were eating some sort of diving beetle, a dragonfly nymphs, lots and lots of scuds, a few leeches, and some chrionomids. Not very particular. They wanted the leech moving slowly in three inch twitches.
Love this fly on lakes in Utah.
Nice variation. Thanks. Good instruction and video😊
I thought UTC was making shitty threads just for me.
nice bunch of fly's Thanks
Thank you for these helpful tips Darren...as a new first-time user of Solarez Bone Dry, my bottle arrived very thick and cloudy...tried your hot water ziplock bag method with freshly boiling water from a pot/ electric kettle for 15 minutes in a vessel, which worked just fine...thanks for sharing your experience, much appreciated
Way too neat to be a Lefty's pattern
Nice ! But very expensive feather for fish to eat lol!
Really excellent. :-)
Strip one side of the hackle off ….John instructs this in one of his videos he did for SFOTF . It makes it sparser than a bugger. As well change the bead from glass to a metal bead in hot orange. Tie them smaller for indicator fishing. The original did not use a wire counter rib but I would advise it for durability.
Wow that looks amazing
I love this way of doing this to make my own laser dubbing but where do you get angelina fibers and what is it normally used for besides making dubbing with and how much is it to buy please let me know. Thank you very muck and please keep up the very good work.
Substitute a pink metallic bead for the gold bead and you're really in business......
Ron Springs......Springs Wiggler
Very well presented. tyvm!
What kind of paint do you use for the eyes? Thanks😊
Great video but the it would appear that the colours are off from the camera and or lighting sources. Can’t really see the natural colours. Thx for the technical side.
Great fly!!! Just go to try and tie it. I hope l do it justice.
I like the way that you did this and I am wondering where you get the bags of Angelina diners from? They look great in making different colors of laser dubbing.
Great video and fly!! Thank you! As a newer guy to this, I do have a few "scraps" when I'm done and this is an awesome idea for those. I have been playing with making my "freak flies" as I call 'em - just taking some leftover material and moving to a smaller hook and seeing what I can create!! haha Good excuse to burn up the smaller pieces and also practice on the smaller hooks too!!
I’ve been looking for this kind of leech, will try to tie some. Thanks.
If anybody has cats i make feather toys for the cats. I use turkey feathers and i cut the hook off a 1/32 jig head tie some on real good and tie it on one of the like barbie rods for kids mInes scooby doo. Iget to practice casting while im playing with the cats and if there's kids around make sure they all have their own. You will hear can i try more than you ever have. I have a blast with it.
I put my rare earth magnets right on the vise,so I can pin my clamps w.e I want in that position..
Fly nomenclature based on illegal drugs has no place in fly fishing. It's not good for kids we are teaching to fish and it contaminates our sport. It's not cute, so drop it!
Thanks for the shout-out, Piscator. This video was a surprise to me, finding it six years after it first dropped, when Nick Thomas through Globalflyfisher mentioned it. Cheers!
That’s about the cleanest weed guard method I’ve seen, hope to see more videos from you!
Hi from Rolla MO 🎣🤠 Dave Hughes. Very nice job. I was just impressed. Thanks for your time and knowledge, have a good New Year.. have you thought of a glass rattle in the body. Have a great year.
Never heard of Angelina fibre
A beautiful streamer that would make a good addition to the arsenal of an increasing number of fly anglers targeting northern Pike
Love these ideas
Very helpful and thoughtful thanks
I’m looking for a formal recipe for this fly. Can you tell me if it’s in one of Ken’s books? I’m not sure if Krystal flash and ostrich were on the OG version of the fly?
If I could add dubbing half as easy as you😂 TY
I like the way you structure your tie for added durability and strength. 👍
If you read this old friend, try Haig-Browns streamers. His tend to be a bit sparse but a lot of his fishing was done in estuaries. Not sure if that makes a difference?
Thank for the video.
nice, looks a lot like a boatman i used to tie some 40 years ago, just newer materials, the old one was peacock herl body, mottled turkey wingcase, and rubber legs, ie sili whatever, a couple wraps of silver tinsel above the hook at the rear end of the body, worked like a charm then, bet this one is even a bit better, funny with the old one the more fish i caught on it the better it worked, even when it started to look like it had been hit by a bomb, just a fluff ball left
Been tying this fly for years, great PNW pattern!!!
Reminds me of a Picket pin light ! A fly I grew up tying that produced really well, and also, utilized a grey squirrel body. Nice simple fly there, I will try some on trout in our streams.
EXCELLENT VIDEO VERY INFORMATIVE
